PRESENTATION OF THE ABG ACTIVITIES IN 2002
Set up in 1980, the Association Bernard Gregory has made it its mission to help young PhDs from all disciplines to enter a company and to promote training through research in social and economic organisations.

Employment:
  • A network made up of a hundred of local partner services, mainly in France but also in Great-Britain, in Ireland and in Belgium, to advise and to follow-up young PhDs who are seeking a job.
  • Job offers whose specific target is PhD. More than 2,000 offers advertised in 2002, 27 % regards jobs outside of France.
  • PhDs positions : about 1000 PhDs positions have been published in 2002, (27 % growth compared to 2001).
  • A CVs database presents at any one time the profiles of over 800 youngs PhDs registered with the ABG. In 2002, 3,000 complete CVs have been forwarded to the request of more than 200 companies.
Information & Communication:

  • Website (180,000 visits per month) and mailing lists (18,000 subscribers).

  • Documentation for PhDs and companies (in French and in English)
On going Projects:
  • The project of a New Chapter in the Thesis aims at helping PhD students to enhance the skills they have developed carrying out their doctoral dissertation. This project is steered by the ABG, under the supervision of the Ministry of Research and in partnership with the CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research) and the Region of Ile-de-France.
  • The Amédée Project has made it its mission to facilitate the European mobility of young PhDs by the setting up of a forum for exchange between young PhDs and employers. Initiated by France (supervision: Ministry of Research; steering: ABG; partners: CEA – Atomic Energy Agency – and Ministry of Foreign Affairs), this project falls within the scope of the European policy for the creation of a European Research Area. This project comes in two main lines: implementation of a European network; update of both data system and communication tools.
