An interface between students in higher education and the world of work

Career Guidance & Employment Group role:

  • The Fedora Career Guiance & Employer Group aims to help employers, students and their institutions to understand the labour market and transitions between higher education and the world of work. This includes:
  • systems of education and training at national levels
  • systems in different institutions and the role of work experience
  • systems of guidance and information
  • methods of establishing relationships with universities and students

 
Activities and achievements:

  • publishing information, newsletters and directories
  • organising conferences and seminars
  • encouraging visits, networks and exchanges
  • European conferences in Cambridge (UK) 1990; Louvain -la- Neuve (B) 1992; Rostock (D), 1996; Oulu (Fin), 1998; Stoke Poges (UK) 2004
  • contributions to Association of Graduate Recruiters’ conferences (1996; 2000) and Fedora Congresses in Berlin (D) 1991; Barcelona (E) 1994; l’Aquila (I) 1997 and Edinburgh (2000)
  • contributions to Fedora Summer Schools in Montpellier(F) 1993, Dublin(IRE) 1995, Amsterdam(NL) 1996, Bordeaux(F) 1998, Stockholm(S) 1999. Paris (F) 2001

 
Structure and purpose:

  • composed of university advisers and employers from across the European Union and associate countries
  • ethic of mutual confidence necessary for frank exchange and two-way flow of information
  • to keep higher education advisers informed of changes and opportunities for students within the employment market
  • to keep employers informed of changes and developments in higher education
